UI Redesign of the Editorial Environment
With the launch of release R51, the entire XperienCentral (XC) editorial environment has been overhauled. This redesign modernizes the interface and increases visual consistency across the entire product.
Visual Adjustments
All primary interface elements have been revised to align with current UI standards. This update includes the following components:
- Interface Elements: The color palette, typography (fonts), and the design of buttons and panels have been fully updated.
- Inline Editor: The visual representation of the inline editor has been adjusted to provide a cleaner and more modern text display.
Functional Improvements and Consistency
In addition to the visual restyling, several optimizations have been implemented regarding information delivery and layout:
- Enriched Media Information: The Images and Downloads sections now display more comprehensive and consistent information, providing a clear overview of available file data.
- Improved Toolbar Logic: The richtext toolbar has received technical enhancements. While previous versions could see the toolbar partially cut off in specific screen layouts, it now remains fully visible and available in R51. This also applies when the environment's sidebars are undocked.
The image below provides a global overview of the renewed main screen layout:
Redesign of Dialogs and Properties Windows
Beyond the main screen, deeper-level windows have also been refreshed. This includes the content item properties dialogs, the advanced search dialog, and the properties of elements within the inline editor. This integrated approach ensures a uniform visual style throughout the entire application.
An example of this is the properties dialog for an image element, which is now displayed as follows:
Bugfixes and Optimizations
Release R51 also includes important fixes and technical improvements:
Bugfixes
- Navigation to Content Items (XC-2548): Resolved an issue where error messages appeared when opening a content item linked to a page as a 'lead image.'
- Visibility of Action Buttons (XC-2532): The 'Edit' and 'Actions' buttons no longer disappear behind undocked sidebars. The layout has been adjusted to ensure the action bar remains accessible at all times.
- Revision Management (XC-2502): Fixed an error that prevented opening previous versions of an item from the 'Revisions' tab. Selected revisions now open correctly.
- macOS Support (XC-2466): Full support for keyboard shortcuts (Cmd+C and Cmd+V) for copying and pasting content elements has been restored across all macOS browsers.
- Query Element with Parameters (XC-2464): When using parameters in a Query element, the 'Apply' button is no longer incorrectly blocked. Data can now be saved properly.
- Improved Edit Permission Validation (XC-2433): Permission checks in the inline editor have been tightened. The 'Edit' and 'Properties' options are now only displayed to users who actually possess the correct rights.
- Form Fragments with Quotation Marks (XC-2424): Names of form fragments (IAF) containing double quotation marks no longer disrupt form validation.
- WebP Conversion (XC-2418): The system now prevents the creation of empty WebP files (0 KB) by identifying corrupt source images early and cleaning up conversion errors.
Improvements
- Transparency in 'Used In': The 'Used In' widget now also shows pages and articles that utilize a specific page section. This provides a complete view of all references.
- Restoration of 'Cancel' Function: Due to a change in R40, adjustments in the properties window of canvas elements were immediately saved as final once the user clicked 'Apply,' making it impossible to undo changes using 'Cancel.' In R51, this has been corrected: if a user clicks 'Cancel,' changes are neither saved nor applied to the canvas.
